Kvaratskhelia Scores as PSG Close Ligue 1 Season with Win Over Auxerre
Paris Saint-Germain finished their title-winning Ligue 1 season on a high note, coming from behind to defeat AJ Auxerre 3-1 at Parc des Princes, securing their third consecutive victory across all competitions.
PSG clinched their record 13th Ligue 1 championship, having secured a 1-0 win over Angers six weeks earlier, marking the first step in Luis Enrique’s pursuit of a historic treble — including the French Cup and Champions League finals.
The Spanish coach fielded his strongest lineup, with stars taking control from the start. Marquinhos headed just over the bar from a Nuno Mendes corner, while Ousmane Dembele came close but was denied by Donovan Leon.
Clément Akpa nearly earned a penalty for a clash with Dembele, but after a VAR review, the referee did not award a spot kick.
Auxerre, comfortably mid-table, surprised by taking the lead in the 31st minute thanks to Lassina Sinayoko, who capitalized on a PSG defensive error and fired past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Mendes almost equalized with a dangerous free kick that hit the post, but the teams went into halftime with a 0-1 scoreline.
In the second half, PSG took full control. Dembele created all the dangerous chances, but Leon made several saves to keep Auxerre in the game.
Kvaratskhelia leveled the score in the 59th minute with a beautiful strike from the edge of the box, and Marquinhos headed PSG ahead eight minutes later following a Mendes cross.
Mendes later won a penalty, but Gonzalo Ramos’ spot kick was saved by Leon, maintaining a one-goal lead.
In the closing stages, Kvaratskhelia sealed the victory with a cool finish after a swift attack set up by Senny Maïlu.
This win allows PSG to finish the season 19 points clear at the top of the table, while Auxerre, coached by Christophe Pelissier, proudly hold 11th place after their recent promotion to Ligue 1.
